Reference Sire
Koheilan I
Koheilan IV x 10 Gazal (Gazal)
Sire of Piolun and Lowelas

Excerpts from articles with reference to Koheilan I:

Brown Edwards, Gladys. "Sires of Significance: Piolun". Arabian Horse World November 1981. Jay Shuler Co., Inc., Palo Alto, California. p. 187.

"This grey stallion was foaled in Hungary at the Babolna Stud, sold to Poland in 1924 where he was called KOHEILAN I, causing confusion to tidy-minded researchers who noted that he was sired by KOHEILAN IV, therefore seemingly out of sequence. However, he was the first of his line in Poland, hence the 'I.' After siring 44 foals he was sold back to Babolna where he was put in more proper sequence, as KOHEILAN VIII, others of the line having been given the intervening numerals. This accounts for some descendants having him listed as 'I' and others as 'VIII,' depending upon where they were bred. His sire was by KOHEILAN II 1887, a son of the desert-bred KOHEILAN-ADUZE, bred by the Anazeh, imported to Babolna about 1880.

KOHEILAN I was a compact, strongly-built horse, correct throughout, and is noted as sire of three winners of the Arab Derby in Poland where he was for several years the leading sire of money winners. He is important in Polish bloodlines. A daughter, *KASZTELANKA, produced FADHEILAN, the sire of FADJUR, so through that nick alone he is in many American pedigrees, not to mention those of later importations."
